Couple on the Beach

Aloha dear ones,

Wouldn't it be lovely to be able to cuddle on a warm sandy beach, watching the sun go down? I love this stamp set/image, especially making anniversary, wedding, engagement, or just lovey dovey cards.

I used Copic Markers on the couple, after first stamping them in Cocoa Brown (Memento inks). I cut out a mask and used Memento inks to sponge around some soft sand, softly glowing sunset, and distressed the embossed layer behind it.

Made for the SCS VSN Challenge by Lee, "A Motto of Design" (the Olympic Games). The 3 letters Lee wanted us to incorporate into the challenge are: C, A, F. I used Couple for C, Anniversary for the A, and foliage for the F. I am officially 11 challenges behind tonight lol.

A Textured Seahorse

Aloha everyone,

Has it been a good week for you? I hope so because a new one is about to begin! Apologizing in advance for the long description of various techniques and products used below. You might want to get a cuppa!

Splitcoast Stampers is having a weekend VSN (virtual stamping night) which started last night. So far I have completed 1, uno, ein, ichi card. I'm behind before it starts! But have no fear - they allow a few extra days to complete and enter all of our submissions. It's a fantastic way to create cards and brush up on new ideas, infusing your mojo with renewed energy. I used several techniques on this card which I will explain below --

Do you know the name of the manufacturer of the below seahorse? I bought it years ago on EBay, unmounted, red rubber. It did not have a name, so if any of you recognize it, could you let me know who made it? Thank you!

The challenge is about using water so I tried two different techniques. The Seahorse was heat embossed with Liquid Platinum embossing powder. Cover with your favorite distress inks and carefully wipe the seahorse or image with a little wet wipe to remove the inks from the image. Drop water onto the image and after a few seconds, blot up with a dry cloth or tissue. This creates some bubble-like background for your underwater image.

Direct to paper your VersaMark pad to cover the entire image with ink, sprinkle with UTEE (ultra thick embossing powder) and heat until clear. Do this three times for a glossy, thick finish. Allow to cool. You can leave it that way or you can bend it all over into the "Cracked Glass" technique which is what I did. I covered the top with a layer of Mod Podge to increase the gloss and seal the cracks.

For the textured background panel, I used Gansai Watercolors in teals, blues and yellows to match up with the underwater scene. While wet, sprinkle large grain Sea Salt all over. Spray all over with Perfect Pearl water. Allow to dry or use a heat tool like I did (no patience here). Use metallic color pastes and dab all over the textured panel. In real life you can see lots and lots of texture, shine and metals on this panel.

The black layering panel was run through with a Sizzix "Rope" embossing folder, then covered with the same aqua and green metallic paint as the textured panel. It gives the rope black panel a metallic sheen that isn't picked up in the picture.

Stamp bubbles all over the card base and heat emboss with clear or Holographic Embossing Powder like this one. Cut out piece of burlap for yet more texture and interest and assemble your pieces. Finally, add three clear bubble embellies for adding to the underwater scene.

3D Stemple Farbe (metallic paints) "Light Blue" and "Lime Green"
Burlap, crystal bubbles (Pretty Pink Posh), adhesive foam squares, Scor Tape, Dries Clear, corner rounder

Hidden Sentiment Technique

This was a fun path to walk down. I had never made one of these before and didn't use a template. It was very interesting and a little tedious to make it 'work' correctly. But in the end, it is very worth the extra time and engineering to have a card become kinetic like this.

Hey, You're Not Sharing!

House Mouse has the sweetest little mice. We are supposed to make a card that will bring a smile to the recipient. While I think most cards will make people smile, House Mouse images pretty much guarantees it :D

I tied ribbons around their tails because the ink smeared on two of them. It was also fun to pierce the edges, something I don't usually do and would like to more often.

Flower Friend

I love La La Land Marci stamp images. This one is Kimono Marci. Their images are very fun to color because there's so much hair, face, and clothing space.

Used CB Asian Basketweave embossing folder for the background, some Midori flowers, and an Anna Griffin tag (because I am crawling to finish this week long VSN challenge at SCS). Four more challenges to go before Saturday afternoon..... so this is what running a marathon is like (not really).

Nana's Quilt

I really love country living and handmade with love items. But I don't have the patience or know how to quilt. But I can COLOR a simple quilt!!

I just fussy cut the images and stamped onto SB oval nesties, sponged the edges with Jumbo Java ink, as well as Brilliance Gold (smaller oval). Added pearls, gold nail heads, and scalloped the top, zig zagged a stitch line around the pattern paper. Finally, tied a couple twine bows onto the 'rod' holding up the quilt.

Tickled Pink

Whew, this VSN over at SCS comes to a close this Saturday, so must hurry to get these last few entries made and uploaded.

Ann wants us to make something that has both rough and smooth, so I whipped up a mixture of joint compound (for sheet rocking), with some glue and a touch of pink Liquid Pearls. After getting it to a thick consistency, I covered the stamp from Elegant Elements with a bit and stamped all over the panel this way. I filled in the white space with Perfect Patterns small square and small floral circle. Using the heat tool, I dried the homemade Gesso {smile} within about two minutes, then finished sponging with Pixi Dust Pink by VersaMagic.

Added the tag and ribbon, then the vellum butterfly (thanks Shari) and called it done!

Moon Rise

I love Theresa Momber's tutorials on sponging a variety of scenery. She can blend colors like nobody's business.

This is for Ann's "I Spy" VSN Challenge over at SplitcoastStampers Website. The VSN this month is about opposites. So I spied a dark sky with a bright moon rising. Using Theresa's sponging technique in my humble way, I tried to recreate an ocean scene with stars twinkling above. Yes, I have a long, long way to go but the more steps we put forth forward, the closer  to the goals we get, Yes? Sitting still doesn't get us any closer to achieving :*

Polished Marble Technique

This was a toughy for me.

I didn't have glossy cardstock or metallic reinker. Became very tricky for me to complete the project because I had to use fixative spray when done, and nothing wants to stick to that.

The first photo is just of the polished stone without anything else. I adhered it easily to Gina K. Pure Luxury white cardstock 120#.

The second photo shows the floral focal image, pearls and ribbon - more of a finished card.

I sponged the background with rubbing alcohol, felt applicators, Memento Pixi Dust pink, Sahara Desert tan, Jumbo Java darker brown, and Brilliance Galaxy Gold. The stamp is from Gina K. Designs "Friends are Forever." Colored with Copic markers. Added some pink pearls, brown ribbon and sprayed the focal image with Perfect Pearls spray.

Hi there buddies,

To say I am completely exhausted is a total understatement. I can barely keep my eyes open, let alone type anything that makes sense.

I've made 12 cards (?) in the last few days. It usually takes me about 3 days to make one card. My brain is overcooked oatmeal now.

Be that as it may, I made another challenge card for SCS DTGD. This is Riley. I love this guy.

The card base is from GKD in Sand. This time I tore the white card 'on purpose.' I edged it with some color by Memento inks, Sea Breeze. Added a lot of Stickles Diamond glue, cut out the image with Spellbinders labels 16, edged it with blue, colored him with Memento markers, and added sparkle to him to make it look brrrr cold.

The background is embossed with Sizzix Snow Burst embossing folder. I added some orange jute, a sparkly snowflake and a big blue rhinestone in the middle.

The sentiment (Hero Arts "Everyday Sayings") was stamped onto Spellbinders Fancy Tags 1, and added two more little blue rhinestones. I think I covered everything.

Just Skating By...

Hi stamping friends,

Isn't he a cutie? He's from Gina K. Designs, "Penguin Joy." I used cardstock, pattern paper and ribbon from GKD.

I colored and used inks by Memento. The ear muffs are Liquid Applique with heat tool to puff them up. I added sparkly snowflakes and ice, even his beak, with the Stickles Diamonds glue.

The sentiment label is Spellbinders Deckle rectangle, and the back of it is pattern paper cut with a Fiskar's scallop-y type scissors. Focal Image cut with Spellbinders Labels 16. Add rhinestones.

Does the pattern paper kinda look like nighttime with snow falling? That's what I was imagining :)

I Love You!

I love my husband, kids and grandkids. I hope I've told them enough times, and want to keep on telling them. So this card is going to one of them, just in case she forgot.

A friend in Virginia (Hi Penny) sent me the die cut flat flower layers. I colored, curled, and glued them together, adding the stamens to the center. It is very 3D :)  Another friend (Hi Shari in Canada) sent me the sparkly, multi color butterfly and leaves die cuts. I colored the leaves and added a sentiment from JustRite stamps. I used the Swiss Dot embossing folder from Cuttlebug on the yellow background, and the Stampin' Up Snow Burst embossing folder to the white oval. Used the EK Success tag punch for the sentiment, added some sponging and pearls, rounded a couple corners, and was done.

Now, the get it in the mail, along with several other cards I've made for different ones.

What Can I Say?

It's humorous for sure. What gal hasn't smiled or batted an eyelash at a guy ;D   Me! Just kidding.

That's why this stamp set makes me chuckle - it has lots of funny sayings in it. Tami Mayberry designed the set called "Girl Talk" and it's available at Gina K. Designs.

I love embossing folders. This one is by Sizzix called "Berry Splash." (These are also my high school colors, too). I colored it quickly with Memento markers, added a sparkle here and there (including her eye glasses), sheer ribbon, a button from GKD and some orange jute. The corners are cut with Cropadile 'Cloud" corner chompers.

Konichiwa Stampers!

This is another card for SCS DTGD. I used a variety of stamps -- the little kimono girl I think is a Stampendous wood mounted stamp I've had for a long time. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up. And the beautiful chevron borders at the bottom are from "Pretty Patterns" a stamp set from Melanie Muenchinger available at Gina K. Designs.

I colored her with Prismacolor pencils, blended with Gamsol, and added a touch of Sakura clear glitter pen here and there, used Memento inks for the chevrons and sentiment, then added the rhinestones, button and jute to finish. It's kinda CAS ;)

Hey Surfer Dude!

Hi there cardmaking buddies,

This was for a color challenge at SCS DTGD (I'm out of breath - whew!) those people can really kick out cards!

I turned a gatefold base on its side so that it opens up top-ways.

Stamp set "Our Craft Lounge" (I forget the set name right now, sorry).

Used the Cuttlebug Waves embossing folder, some GKD "Sand" and "White" Pure Luxury card stock, some Martha Stewart (I think) striped pattern paper, and Bazzill orange for layering. Colored and sponged with Memento markers and inks, added a touch of orange jute and finished up the inside.

Heart Happy

Dear friends,

You can see why I am exhausted. I am not used to making one card after another, and am quickly pooping out over at SCS DTGD challenges.

I got into an inky mess with this one, but it was lots of fun.

It started out as a CAS card, then I tore up the lovely floral paper when applying monoadhesive, and 'had to' turn it into a vintage shabby chic card (rats) :D :D :D

I loved applying the Darice Falling Leaves embossing folder onto the floral Anna Griffin pattern paper! Using Memento inks (Bamboo Leaves, Sahara Sand and Angel Pink) I got busy distressing up the whole card. I added a strip of distressed pattern paper to the top of the inside of the card too, and cut the border with a Fiskar's pinking-type edge scissors.

A dear friend in Canada (Hi Shari) sent me the sentiment tag, so I am not sure which company makes the die. It covered another hole I tore into the pattern paper nicely :/

To finish up, I sprayed Perfect Pearls shimmer spray in Pearl all over the place, even on my face (by accident).

Dainty Dots

Hi, again friends,

This almost started to look like a Target advertisement, so I had to monkey with it :)

Another challenge for SCS DTGD, red and white. I stamped a little flower from My Mind's Eye "Fiddlesticks Story" and the sentiment from JustRite Stamps "Grand Sentiments."

I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dot embossing folder as well as Martha Stewart Doily Edge border punch. After stamping the flower in red, I punched it out with a 1 inch circle punch, followed by red card 1-1/3 inch punch for each little background.

Papers from GKD Pure Luxury. I used some red rhinestones for accents, and edged the sentiment in red. Inks from Memento. Kinda CAS for me.

Sweet Friend

Hi, again,

I've been too busy with trying to keep up with the SCS DTGD challenges. Really, you have to be way strong and healthy (not to mention fast) when playing that one! Not me LOL!

This challenge was to use ribbon in a 'different' way. So I made a couple tabs and tucked them under the split background layer.

I love Theresa Momber's art and this is one of her stamp sets "Birds and Blossoms" available at GKD. I also used Stampin' Up for the scalloped layer background: Irish Blessing (green) and Lace (lavender). I used the Cuttlebug "Twigs" embossing folder, some Copics to color, added a touch of glitter to butterfly and flowers, as well as Liquid Pearls Mint Green to flower centers. There's only ONE rhinestone on my whole card :D and JustRite sentiment taken from "Just the Right Words" stamp set. The focal image is cut from Spellbinders Labels #10.
