Week 4 at the Outlawz Color Challenge

Aloha everyone!

This week's colors at the Outlawz Color Challenge are Red, Black, and Gray/Silver + add die cuts.

I found an image a friend gave me, and thought, this really looks like our grandson, Kyle. He's 3 and ...very active.

I had too much fun coloring this with Spectrum Noir markers, and a couple of Copics for the colors I don't have in Spectrum. I used a bit of the Blender pen to give his shirt and jeans some wear.

The bottom borders are cut with Spellbinder scallop dies, the right side with decorative scissors and the image was cut with Spellbinder rectangle dies, then sponged with red and black. It tickles me how the Sakura clear glitter pen sparkled up the frogs eyes and toe nails!

Whew -- finally completed the inside of Kyle's card today (Jan 8 2013). I colored a large frog, cut it out, made a spring from some floral wire I had (wound it around a ring sizer), then used Scor Tape to get some good adherence for the spring, frog and inside card front.

The inside of the card is below :D

The Outlawz, Week #3 Challenge December !

Wow, the month is almost over...wait...the YEAR is almost over! Another one come and went so fast it was a blur!

It's Challenge #48 at The Outlawz and the colors to be used are: a royal blue, golden yellow, and black. Make sure you enter your creation there (link below) for great monthly prizes from various cardmaking supply and /or digi image companies!

The Outlawz Challenge, Color #48

Here is my card - I used the Aloha stamp set by Theresa Momber from Gina K. Designs, Copic markers and Spica clear glitter pen.

Technique: Made the gold glitter brads from plain ones (cover plain brads with clear adhesive, dip in glitter, cover with Glossy Accents and let dry). Added black bling and dry embossing folders for the layers, stash ribbon. Glossy Accents all over the toucan beak for shiny 3D feel.

Ivory & Pink Sympathy Card

For a sweet lady on a stamping site ...

Elegant Florals stamp set by Theresa Momber available at Gina K. Designs.

Technique - A gentle shabby chic: use feminine colors, sponge the edges, lacy die cuts and pastels. I used a touch of Spica clear glitter pen on the stems, leaves and inside the calla lily.

Entered: Through the Craft Room Door Challenge 48

Center Step Card

Apples & a Squirrel -- Thank You card   (Thank You StampTV for choosing this as a winner)

This stamp set is by Carolyn King, available at Gina K. Designs - Whimsical Autumn, and it's fun using it to make whimsical designs!

The technique for making a center step card is a bit tricky. But watching YouTube videos on it certainly helps.

Entered into Lee's Apple of my Eye Challenge at StampTV.

The Outlawz

Thank you, Roxann - I am enjoying being guest designer on the Color Challenge this month! But this first week was a huge challenge for me - red, white, gold and add a bell. So I had to just use a vintage door 'bell' hanging to the right of the door. Used a lot of gold glitter, too.

Making Easy Paper Flowers

These flowers are so easy! I watched a video on Pinterest to learn how to make them, and you can watch it here:

Here are my first examples:

I added Stickles to the edges and sprayed shimmer spray onto the layers. Thank you for looking!!!

Snowy Mountains and Shooting Star

For a dear friend whose spouse recently past away. We pray he will endure losing her - they were married for many many years.

To make this card I just tore paper and used the edge while sponging Memento inks to make the sky and mountains. Used Stickles for a shooting star, white gel pen to highlight stamped tree, and to make the Northern Star. Tree stamp by Inkadinkado and sentiment by Gina K. Designs, Elegant Florals. Cardstock Gina K. Pure Luxury white 120# and Navy for the layering.

Peek-a-boo Snowman Card

Hi, there!
This is a friendly, happy card, sure to bring a smile to anyone who receives it. You can substitute all kinds of images for different ideas, too.
When you pull on the 'wings' of the card, the big snowy tree splits in half and exposes the entire snowman, the sky, and glittered snow all over. Then when you slide the wings back towards the card, the tree halves come back together to hide Mr, Snowman!!! Nifty neato, huh?

"Snowman Wishes" and "Lacy Borders" stamp sets, Gina K. Designs
Pure Luxury cardstock, white and turquoise sea
Copic BG10, BG27 & B00 (snowman hat & shading of his scarf)
Paper pieced snowman scarf scrap pp
Memento inks - turquoise gem, cloud white, agean blue, night sky
Glitter - Prismacolor holographic glitter
Spellbinders Large Round Scallop/Large Round dies
Free hand the tree and the sentiment tag
Score Tape, stash ribbon and bling by Kasier, twine by We R Memory Keepers
Monoadhesive liquid and tape runner glues, 3D pop dots, Martha Stewart Arctic Snowflake paper punch

Peek a boo card tutorial on YouTube

Entered into following challenges:

The above picture shows the snowman partly shown
(I couldn't take the picture and pull on the wings to open it more)

This picture is hokey, I know, but I am by myself at the moment and have no
one to help me take the picture and hold the card closed, so.. maybe
I should have used some clothe pins?

But you get the idea! The snowy fir tree covers Mr Snowman when the card is closed :)

Thank you so much for looking!

Night Snow at the Cabin

Aloha!

I wanted to try using the used, dryer sheet glitter method.

Technique:

First I stamped and colored/sponged the image. Then I took a used dryer sheet (you may find that yours needs a tiny bit of ironing first - mine did), cut it down with scissors just a bit larger than the image, sprayed the dryer sheet with adhesive, laid this carefully over the image and smoothed it out. Fold the excess behind the layer of cardstock (you need to cut part of the bulky corner dryer sheet off for the cardstock layer to lay flat). Then I poured glitter over the adhesive covered image (use a piece of clean paper to catch the excess glitter and pour it back into your container). And then I was pretty much done. Looks like a lot more work, huh?

PS  This is IMPORTANT -- use throw away scratch paper (and preferably disposable gloves) when spraying the adhesive and smoothing the sticky dryer sheet over the image/cardstock -- trust me, the splat mat thingeys and your hands will get all goopy sticky so it's better to prevent the mess.

Friends Helping Friends

Coloring fur for texture.

Isn't this a very sweet digi image? It's from slickjestamps. She's so talented!
I really love how the doggie is lifting up the mouse so he can pick some strawberries <3 p="p">It's basically a CAS card - few layers, colored image, little bling, but no ribbons or 3D areas.

To make the fur look like it has texture, just 'dot' your colors, blending shades but leaving areas white and this gives the area depth.

A Chic Anniversary

Welcome! Painting with Perfect Pearls ~

I've been wanting to do something shabby for a while :) so made this Anniversary Card. All I did was cut the different layers out, sponged edges with Memento Pixi Dust (pink) and Toffee Crunch (tan/brown). I used a few drops of water and mixed with Perfect Pearls, then brushed along the edges of some of the die cuts, card base, and sentiment - it gives it a touch of shimmer and old shabbiness.

To the Family & Friends of Whitney Heichel

This card is made with much pain of heart for dear friends in Oregon whose wife, daughter, sister and friend was suddenly taken by someone who barely knew her. It is a tragedy that I pray her family and friends can find strength and healing from our Father in the heavens and the passage of time.

Triple / Quadruple stamping - layers
Take 3 pieces of cardstock measuring 1/4 inch smaller than one another. Stack them with the largest on the bottom, smallest on top. Carefully stamp all over without moving the layers. When done, cut contrasting cardstock 1/8 inch larger than each piece of the stamped cardstock. Assemble like you see in photo, embellish as desired.

Dedicated to Whitney Heichel
Her husband, Clint, their families, their friends and coworkers
Thank you to the law enforcement agencies involved who worked so hard to find the suspect, as well as for bringing Whitney home to her loved ones, all in four days.

Breast Cancer Awareness

I really hate all diseases and disorders and place my hope in Bible promises such as Isaiah 33:24 - "...and no resident shall say, 'I am sick...'" How truly wonderful that day will be. Until then, this card is going to the local oncology dept to encourage those sitting for chemo treatments.

One of my favorite techniques is to use Sakura glitter pen over images to add a bit of sparkle, esp when the light hits the card just right. I also love the CAS method for quick and easy cards.

It is entered into the following challenges:

  • Through the Craftroom Door #39

Bless My Bloomers!

Sometimes, a more quieter CAS card is nice to make. This one was colored with Copic markers E50, E00 on the dressform's decollotage, then RV000, RV00, RV02, RV13 all for the top/bottom outfit, and C1 for the shadows.

Added sparkle by going over the 'wired' parts of the dress frame with Sakura Clear Star glitter pen. Small golden pearls to waistline and small decoration at bottom of dressframe, large pink pearls to left & right of image, pink ribbon tied with Bow Easy, and simple sentiment on hand cut paper. 'Stamped' the lace designs :)

Watering Can Card

I sure hope I get this in under the wire. I've been so ill lately, and this card took all week. Sinus infection, then head cold on top from visiting a doctor's office, on top of chronic illness and my body is just a limp noodle with fog brain.

Used a template for the watering can, fussy cut everything (nope, don't have a cutting machine), paper pieced it, stamped/colored/cut out the flowers and pop dotted them, Diamond Stickles to flowers, tied flower charm to button with Stickles on that, too, and simple embossed sentiment "Hello."

For the Friends of Speedy TV challenge - choose 3 in a row from a bingo card. I chose: Not a card + buttons + flowers

Autumn Leaves

Embossing in gold, coloring w/Copics, then fussy cutting ~

It's being entered into the following Challenges:

  • Simple Salutations 9.12.2012 at Mark's Finest Papers;
  • CAS 9.16.2012 at the Outlawz;
  • Live Chat Challenge 9.12.2012 at StampTV

I used gold embossing powder for the leaves and acorn, then used Copic Markers to color. I stacked different layers of pop dots behind the leaves and acorn, as well as the sentiment tag, in order to give  the card all kinds of depth. Using the twine ribbon (that has gold strings running thru it) as well as the CB Twig EF, bronze brads and copper pearls, then autumnal floral pp gives the card lots of different textures.

The Cat Angels

Gatefold Card ~

When our dear friend in the stamping world passed away last month, her cat went through some traumatic times. It seems she may have a good home, we are hoping. Two elderly sisters have taken her in, and I made a thank you gatefold card for them. If anyone feels inclined to help us fund the care of Lynn's cat, please PM me and I will forward the mailing address to you. One of the sisters has suffered a stroke - they are doing the best they can. Their address is also at StampTV, Lynn's online stamping family. Thank you so much for looking, and for caring!

A Song in my Heart

Aloha,

This is a card entered into a challenge at The Outlawz, Greeting challenge. I finally get to use some music pattern paper. The image and greeting are by Hero Arts. I had to become a detective to figure out what sentiment to use since I don't own anything music in crafts other than this paper. So I drew a music note after the sentiment to tie it in. The sentiment tag started out white, but I sponged it red. Colored with Copic markers.
Prisma glitter to dress hearts and trim and buttons, black adhesive pearls, stash shimmer ribbon & twine, teddy bear charm, pop dots behind the image and sentiment for some 3D effect.

Winter Crocus

Many of us have been been grieving in the stamping world over two lovely ladies, Barb and Lynn. Lynn I knew well, and her passing was just a shock to me, leaving me numb and lost for the last 3 weeks. I wish both their families the very best in healing and hopes in the promised resurrection (John 5:28&29).

It isn't surprising that making a sympathy card is extremely hard under these circumstances.

I used 'Winter Crocus' stamp set by Mark's Finest Papers and am entering into their Speedy Fox & Friends Sympathy Card challenge.

First I cut two ovals out of brown and white cardstock using Spellbinder dies. The edge of the image oval is colored in with Sakura Stardust Clear pen for sparkle.

I stamped, then masked the crocuses, sponged a simple sky, ground, and drew in some grass using Memento inks. Using Copic Markers, I colored the flowers, added some Sakura glitter pen in Copper, and topped the centers with orange bling. Stickles in Diamond finished off the inside petals.

The butterfly was stamped with VersaMark embossing ink, painted with blue, purple and pink Perfect Pearls, and finished with clear sparkle bling. Pearls complete the card. There's so much sparkle and shimmer in this card in real life! Thank you for looking!

My Heart Blooms

I love the periwinkles of lilacs, lavender and hydrangeas.

Technique:
I stamped, colored with Prismacolor Pencils & blended with Gamsol, then fussy cut the flower out. I popped it on adhesive dots, along with the beautiful sentiment. The butterfly was given to me by a good friend. I colored it to try and match the flower. I put a simple strip of Washi tape down the left side and some tiny pearls below the sentiment.

Thanks so much for looking!

CAS Dragonfly

This is a very quick, clean and simple (CAS) stained glass dragon fly image card with smaller dragon fly inside, and two simple sentiments that pack a lot of meaning.

Technique:
Colored with Sakura 'star' glitter pens. If you have not colored with these pens yet, don't wait!

Entered into Outlawz challenge, CAS cards

Gold embossing and coloring with Perfect Pearls

Technique:

First, stamp image (butterfly) with VersaMark, sprinkle gold embossing powder over, then heat emboss. Let cool for a few minutes, then stipple your choice of Perfect Pearls (I used plain white pearl shimmer, and the pink to create an opal finish) over the butterfly. Brush off excess. Cut butterfly out.

I stamped a lacy border to the bottom of a piece of iridescent, speckled vellum, then heat set it. Attach to ivory cs. Attached all the layers to pink cardstock base.

Added ribbon and adhesive backed pearls. Stamped sentiment onto Spellbinders lacy oval nestie. Cut out larger oval from pink pp and mounted lacy oval to this. Applied pop dots to sentiment and to butterfly.

Stamped lacy borders inside the card.

You have to love House Mouse stamps - this lil guy is very 'cool.'
Technique:
Distressed look - sponge colors on edges, use raffia or cords, and old font sentiments.
Copic marker colors with shading, and Stickles to glass for frost.

This is a bit distressed, retro, on the beach scene. thanks so much for looking - aloha, rosy

Diagonal Triple Pocket Happy Card

This really did start out as a double pocket card, but ended up as a triple pocket on the diagonal card. So please ignore the third 'card' - I truly did not want to waste a whole pocket. They are multi-folded on the diagonal folds.

I used a circus theme (balloons, clown, 'teddy' bears) and the multi color polka dot cs and ribbon. Should bring a smile to someone's heart !!

Thank you for looking!!! with aloha hugs, Rosy

Gilded Vintage

Gold embossing to corners using the Vintage Chic stamp set from GinaK Designs. The set has vintage images that are very classy. Colored her dress orange and pink for a SCS challenge.

Bringing Them Home

I love the sea. This is a lighthouse by Theresa Momber and "By the Sea" stamp set, available at GinaK Designs.

The lighthouse and greeting are pop dotted to give more 3D feel to the card. The only color is yellow. Handmade the quarter moon charm tied to the twine.
