Soft Flowers

Aloha, dear friends,

Have you ever used color pencils on vellum? Try it. You get such a gentle look.

I stamped the image in a soft neutral, then colored it with really inexpensive Crayola pencils :D    I used some white pigment ink all over the back of it, as well as over the embossed layer behind it - this pops the layer and the background a bit. Inside the card is the elegant sympathy sentiment from  Thinking of You by Flourishes.

I learned more intricate ways to apply color pencils to various mediums in the Color Pencil Jump Start Class taught by Sandy Allnock.

A Window to Aloha

Hello there friends,

A while ago I was practicing some watercoloring. After this one dried, I ran it through an embossing folder by (I think) Anna Griffin. I'm sorry - it's been so long, I forgot the name (eeek).  I wanted it to be less fussy so I didn't bother to add layers or ribbons or strings, just a few stray sequins.

For Friend Facing Health Challenge

Hi everyone,

This card is for a friend who received a frightening health diagnosis. I hope she maintains her strength and hope and that is what this card is about.


Stamp Set: Flourishes "Mother's Words of Wisdom" floral wreath, butterfly from Gina K. Designs
Image colored with Copic Markers with red Liquid Pearls. Background paper embossed with Anna Griffin flower folder. Epoxy butterfly half round over peach grossgrain ribbon. Butterfly watercolor pencils by Derwent, round accents by Liquid Pearls. Butterfly and sentiment covered with clear embossing powder. You can probably see sparkles from Wink of Stella here and there. I colored the rhinestones pale orange for the butterfly antennae. Cardstock 120# Gina K. Designs white pure luxury, and Bazzill peach for the layer.

(I'm sorry for remembering the exact name of the bicolor pattern paper but it was from a pack, the exact sentiment die cut name, and the Anna Griffin Emb. folder exact name I will need to look up later. Having a difficult day with pain today so cannot get up to look, but will when I can.)

Watercoloring a Solid Stamp

Boy, this was complicated.

First I painted gelatos onto the stamp,misted it lightly, and stamped it onto watercolor 140# paper. It didn't turn out very solid, so I took the paint brush and added some water, touched some of the paint and spread the colors more evenly. Let it dry. Go back in and add darker tones to the centers of the flowers by touching the tip of the wet, round paint brush to the tip of Derwent WC pencil (a deep blue) and carefully add whispy strokes to the centers of the flowers. Let dry again.

For the background colors, I used regular colored pencils lightly stroked in an angle - oranges, yellows, pinks and a touch of blues. I didn't want to mess up the watercolored flowers by attempting a risky watercolor background today.

Then I added the ribbon and gold metal dragonfly, some simple scoring around the border -- for Tammie, sympathy for her mother passing this week.

Friendship Flowers

Hi friends,

I've finished two cards (yay)! The first one is colored with regular color pencils. I used Pebbles chalks for a soft background, pierced holes for a border on the image and sentiment, and added pink rhinestones for accents. The pattern paper is from Anna Griffin. Using the pencils to color the flowers stretched the cardstock a bit, so I placed foam adhesive to push the flowers and leaves out for a more 3D look.

The second card is colored with Sharpie Ultra Fine markers. I added Glossy Accents over some of the leaves and flowers, then a touch of Stickles here and there. I used Pebbles chalk for to soften the white of the cardstock, then four small lavender pearls in the corner.

The pattern paper is from Brenda Walton. The envelope is made with the Envelope Punch Board.

A Cheery Hello, CASE-ing Tosha @ Flourishes

Techniques: Water coloring, embossing with a die cut, and a simple aperture card

I'm definitely not a water color artist, in any shape or form. So it took no less than SIX attempts at this, stamping in Stazon black, lining up the images, and attempting to water color.

I water colored using distress inks Peeled Paint, Dusty Concord and Broken China along with a Niji water brush. I tore the edges of the watercolor paper.

You probably cannot see it, but I used the next largest die from this set in order to emboss a larger beautiful image around the aperture. Oh, if only you could see it ;) Then I used the CB Swiss Dots ef for the right margin to add interest.

The card that is CASEd is right on the Flourishes blog page, which Tosha uses Anemones in blues and purples. She also uses an aperture on the left with score lines on the right. I put the sentiment in the center, and she placed hers on a vellum strip along the bottom. I added the ribbon with button. She has a button on the vellum strip.

Welcome Autumn Card and Bookmark with Gold Embossing

Are you looking forward to a change of seasons where you live? If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, it's time for beautiful autumn. If in the Southern, it's time for spring. Here in Hawai'i, it's just hot any time of the year. However, it does get a touch cooler during winter and spring, so that's my favorite time of year here!

This is a card/bookmark set I made for friends who will be visiting our place of worship to encourage all of us. These traveling overseers come twice a year and this couple used to be in our congregation so it's extra special ♥ Old friends are always treasured!

Stamp set: Flourishes, Spring Blossoms by Marcella Hawley {gloriously beautiful}

I started out embossing the main floral image in gold, then colored with warm Copic colors. I used a bit of white chalk on the tips of the flowers as highlight and Liquid Pearls Buttercup as a few dots in the flower centers. Memento inks are great to sponge around and I used Cantaloupe, Thatched Straw, Desert Sand and Toffee Crunch.

Gold Embossed Bouquet

I am doing the mental moon walk here -- think this may be a CAS card {finally}! Why are CAS cards so hard for me? This time I made up my mind to just stop, use lots of white space, stop, walk away, deep breathe, and leave it alone LOL.

I stamped Spring Blossoms from Flourishes (won a stamp set from them THANK YOU FLOURISHES) in VersaMark, sprinkled detail gold embossing powder, hit it with the heat tool, then colored in with Copics and Spectrum Noir.

Happy accident: cut the yellow layer incorrectly, so just used two squares of it, pop dots behind it, scored the main card and added three pearls. PAU (pronounced POW in Hawai'ian = done, finished!)

A "Golden Hello"

{The recipe follows after photograph}
I cut two die cut layers from white card stock. I used VersaMark to stamp the small flower from "Grand Sentiments" all over the main panel, sprinkled with Gold embossing powder and then heat until shiny.

I colored in all the flowers with some Copic markers from the tan group. Cut the oval out of tan card, popped up with two layers of adhesive foam dots, added four small pearls. Cut the white oval, sponged inside then stamped with Hello and curly horse shoe kind of design, both from "Lace Medallion Labels" and added the six tax rhinestones. Used double layer adhesive pop dots under the white oval.

I took some gold shiny tulle, laced it through the sides of the deco label, and tied a bow. I spread the bow into a circle shape.

Cut three round layers out of white card, sprayed it with water and scrunched up tightly and let dry. Opened, sponged with tan colors, painted edges with gold. Added large gold brad to center and made into flower. Glued onto tulle flower.

Used three premade paper flowers, and after coloring and painting with gold, placing them to upper right of focal image. Painted gold into centers of all background flowers.

Final step: Cut scallop, and applied two layers of gold embossing powder, heat set. Placed just under gold tulle to meet the Flourish Challenge this week :)
